Sexual Assault

Child sexual abuse affects over one quarter of the national population, with reporting of incidents increasing daily. It is estimated that one out of four girls and one out of six boys will be sexually abused by the time they reach 18 years of age. It happens to children of every class, culture, race, religion and gender and they are usually abused by someone they know.

All sexual abuse is damaging, whether it happened only once, or several times over many years. The trauma continues after the abuse ends and the long-term effects frequently interferes with day-to-day functioning. The degree of the trauma is not determined by the severity of the act, but by the feelings the child experiences - their world is never the same again.

  • Child Victims
